How we began:

In November of 2018, we opened Makers Art Collective
- an art and sewing classroom.

We taught classes for teens and adults in a variety of different art forms, as well as quilting and apparel sewing.

While we loved this, we felt there was something missing!
In November of 2019, we decided to make a big switch!

We switched our name to Beyond the Bolt, moved from Portsmouth to Bristol, and added a retail shop!

We still continue to teach quilting and sewing classes in our attached classroom!

About Our Shop:

We LOVE modern fabrics and patterns!

While we say we are primarily a modern shop, all are welcome! The quilting and sewing world is so vast - from traditional quilting to modern quilting - all are welcome here!

The best part of this craft is the ability to learn from each other, ask for advice from each other, celebrate in each others victories, and create friendships while we sew along side each other.

Our dream is to bring people together to encourage, inspire, and teach one another. When people from all different races, cultures, and genders can bond over a shared love for art, quilting, or any fiber art, it’s magical!
We carry a wide variety of fabrics - including the following:

  • Figo
  • Ruby Star Society
  • Paintbrush Studios
  • Dashwood Studios
  • Lewis & Irene
  • Studio E
  • Moda
  • Andover
  • American Made Brand
  • Art Gallery Fabrics
  • Cotton & Steel
  • Kona
  • & more!
Along side fabric, we also have patterns, thread, notions, books, cork fabric, and more!

Our Classroom:

Our classroom is temporarily closed due to COVID-19. We hope to resume in person classes in September!

Classes are one of our favorite parts of Beyond the Bolt!

Classes range from sewing, quilting, bag making, beading, weaving, reverse glass painting, and more!

If you are in the area, swing by! We can’t wait to meet you!
